Me too. Actually, I’d like to be system administrator if that’s not too much to ask. I’ll even drink Guinness Stout out of a can (or the contents of an old tobacco pipe mixed with water and bad espresso, which is roughly the same and probably quicker) if that’ll get me in.

I know this doesn’t help us here in North America, but nothing I’ve had here can really hold a candle to having a nice Beck’s or Heineken on tap in the mother country (that being Germany and Holland resp.)

Actually, while we’re on the topic, what does it take to get out of the “new member” and into the “member” bracket? I feel so . . so vulnerable with that “new” in front of my “member.”

Wait. That came out wrong.

adam . . . that was really funny . . . i literally laughed out loud (but i don’t want to do that dumb thing that chat people do . . . lol . . . lmao . . . rotfl)

anyway, we just changed our member titles: ../discussion/index.cfm?frmid=21&tpcid=370. there’s a brief explanation there about how the titles work.

Since Adam is a freshman member, he’s still too young to post on topics involving alcohol…unless he’s able to present a very persuasive piece of false identification.

I happen to disagree with you about the absence of good beer in North America. With microbrews popping up all over the country, I would venture to say that the U.S. has as many quality beers as Europe, but you have to look harder.

so technically, laurencer, although you are the cino administrator, you are also only a junior member. which is, in and of itself interestingly humorous.

funny how the heirachy works.

just a thought.

and another thought that lol. . . .lmao. . . rotfl was really really funny.

I was this close to starting a topic entitled “Getting Adam Senior Status” and then posting 300 blank replies, but thought better of it in the end. I like the new title system though. It makes me feel a little bit like a Congressman.

Back to beer. I agree that there are some good microbrews. I’m sure I haven’t been to the one’s you’ve been to, but I definitely give the better micros the nod over any of the “mainstream” brands. Still, I can’t quite shake the woody, barley taste of Heineken in Amsterdam. Do the micros really have the centuries of tradition and experimentation behind them? I think not. Honestly, I even liked Guinness when I had it there, but I’ve yet to have one that I enjoyed since coming back. Likewise, I’ve yet to have a Heiney in the states that even resembles what I had back in the land of the low sky. I know memory always heightens the experience, so maybe when I go back I’ll be disappointed, but I don’t think so.

You weren’t drinking Heineken in Holland were you? That would be almost as bad as drinking Becks in Germany, were it legal to buy it there.

Russian beer—now there’s some liquid bread that will have you run screaming back to the U.S. for some good ol’ Sam Adams. I don’t know what Mother Russia’s problem is when it comes to beer, but there IS a problem. (In Russia you can buy beer in 2-litre plastic bottles—this is one case where quantity does not equal quality.)

Russian vodka, on the other hand…. :) :) :)

For those interested in semantics, the Russian word for “water” is voda; the Russian word for “vodka” is, obviously, vodka. This is not a coincidence. But who knew that a simple k could add such a kick?
