i wanted to take a moment to welcome all of those who have registered on the site, but never posted. i read your profiles eagerly and hope to know you better someday, somehow.

i also wanted to start a thread only for those who have never posted before—those who are lurking, reading, thinking. so i thought i’d ask a non-threatening question to create a safe point of entry (and if this is the only time you ever post, that’s fine, too).

and now, the question: what is your favorite season of the year?

Hi Kirstin, I’ve just re joined *cino after a little absence. I registered a few years ago, but when I tried to use my old log-in ‘geoffh’ it wouldn’t work. So maybe it should be deleted! I’ve now left work, or rather was made redundant and yes I’m still looking for work and also thinking about setting up my own business (selling ‘christian art’) to commercial interests.

Thanks again for *cino,
Geoff
favourite season – autumn, for the sheer colour range that creation displays!

Hi,

I have trouble choosing favorites, so I don’t have a favorite season. Autumn comes close, though, because it contains the fruits of summer and the promise of warm, snuggly times in winter, as well as its own beauty.

I posted some answers to the questions about film in the Critique section. I’ve browsed this forum some in the past; I love discussion forums, but discussing too much can cause some guilt and dismay for me. Too many other priorities.

I am a faithful reader of Critique who dreams of the day when I can read all those wonderful books and watch all those thought-provoking films. Is there a nursing home that offers 24 hour film festivals or the classics read aloud by volunteers?

Hi Colleen!

I’m about to start a nursing home with 24 hour film and library service! Only problem is, it’s in England!!

I hope you enjoy cino!

Peace,

Hmmm… I’ll have to consider retiring to England. :D

Well I do recommend it, as long as you stay out of London, which at the moment is not the place to be, because of the terrorists! Oh, and Birmingham too, as that has just been hit by a tornado!!

Peace,

Points well taken, Geoff, but I still have a long time to go before moving into your retirement home. Of course, I could move to England now, in our child-raising years, like Joy Gresham did after her divorce (she married CS Lewis later on…), but I’m thankful to say I still have a husband and he isn’t as charmed with all things British as I am.

Hi Colleen,

Well perhaps your hubby needs a little education in to the English way of life??? Tea and cucumber sandwiches at 4pm and all that stuff!!

So, do I take it you are a CS Lewis fan then? Any soul food you’d like to share?

Peace,

Geoff

The latest book I’ve read related to Lewis is [i:615e86c253]Lenten Lands: My Childhood with Joy Davidman and C. S. Lewis[/i:615e86c253] by Douglas Gresham. It was a good book—parts of it were great—I have a much better sense of Lewis’s personality after reading it.

Serendipity that I found the book—I wasn’t looking for books about Lewis but saw it at a used book sale somewhere. Time for reading is scarce, but I finished it in a weekend.

Hi.

My favorite season is spring. I enjoy spring because I enjoy fresh water, I enjoy cool breezes, I enjoy new beginnings, and I enjoy growth and challenges.

I like to think of myself as a writer, but I’m never quite sure. I am a servant of the most high, and that comes before anything else.

Ben! I’m glad to see your name on the discussion board and that you still name yourself as a writer. I don’t know if I ever told you what an impression it made on me when you introduced yourself in one of our classes as “a writer.” I had no concept until that point that I could claim a named calling other than “student.” Introducing yourself in such a way displayed a courage that surprised and delighted me.
