PLURALISM, RELIGION & PUBLIC POLICY CONFERENCE -

Can there be any consensus in a pluralist society regarding the common good? Regarding ?the dignity of the person? or ?equality of persons? or ?human rights?? How shall these notions guide our legislators, judges, scientists, doctors, and public servants? What role should religion play in determining their content or in shaping public policy?

PLURALISM, RELIGION & PUBLIC POLICY is an international conference designed to bring together people from academia, law, medicine, politics and religious institutions to debate some of the fundamental questions of our time. It will be held at MCGILL UNIVERSITY in Montreal from OCTOBER 9-11.

Lectures by Chief Justice Beverley McLachlin, Jean Bethke Elshtain, H. Tristram Engelhardt Jr., William Galston, Fr. Richard John Neuhaus, Rabbi David Novak, and Charles Taylor will be accompanied by symposia in law, politics and bioethics, each with distinguished panelists, including HRH Prince Hassan bin Talal of Jordan.

The event is sponsored by McGill University?s Faculty of Religious Studies and the Centre for Cultural Renewal (Ottawa), together with the Beatty Memorial Lectures Committee, the McGill Faculty of Law, DFAIT (Human Security), Health Canada, and other partners.

The EARLY REGISTRATION DEADLINE has been extended to 8 September. For more information about this unique event in the intellectual and cultural life of Canada, please visit the conference web site: http://www.mcgill.ca/prpp.
