How often do you see your neighbors? Do you consider them your friends? Why do you think it is that your neighborhood functions as a community (or doesn’t). And what about that old grumpy guy with the fat dog at the end of your street? What’s up with him?

So comfortibility doesn’t necessarily mean sameness? Or does it? Does it maybe mean drunkenness? just kidding. Sort of.

When I have to quickly evaluate a neighborhood: I feel safe in a neighborhood where it looks as the inhabitants care about their homes. Not to sound too Dutch, but in a neighborhood situation, there’s something to be said about cleanliness and it’s generally a pretty good indication of whether someone will be a “good neighbor.” Hey, don’t mess with my property value!! :) If someone takes pride or takes ownership of their home, the chances are they want to keep the neighborhood up no matter their skin color – black, white, blue or green. I won’t discriminate on skin color. I discriminate on cleanliness. Is that wrong? Does that make sense? I just don’t celebrate the diversity of other people’s dirt, filth, garbage and heaped up dog poop.

You know Anne, in some cultures piles of dog poop in the yard are representative of a family’s religious fervency.

Aren’t you supposed to be teaching or something during the day, Norbert? I mean, I’m a stay-at-home mom. We all know I need the occasional break from doing nothing. But you …

(We prefer to think of piles of dog poop as organic fertilizer.)

By the way, congrats on the new house! Where’s it located?

Right across the street from Mike Willis’s old house. (Token rolling of the eyes.) As soon as it’s relatively ours, we’ll invite you guys for some ham buns and orange drink. =)

All are welcome for ham buns and orange drink!
