mrsanniep was telling her woes of the new york times site registration page and i was going to tell her about a great tool i’ve been using, and then i thought maybe other people have tips and tricks that they’d like to share, so i started this thread for that purpose.

here’s mine:

for sign-ups (such as nyt, etc) where they require you to enter information and a valid email address, but which you don’t want to receive any further mailings and you definitely don’t want your email address sold or used in any way. type in whatever information you want in the form (including “remember me” so you don’t need to log in again), and when you get to the email address, type in anything@mailinator.com. (literally anything…eg. booyah@mailinator.com, cino@mailinator.com….) then, if you need to click on a link in the email they sent you to verify the email address, you can go to “mailinator.com” and type in your “username” and it will display the message. obviously, don’t use this for anything personal or confidential, as anyone who types in that username can read it, no passwords required. they keep the message on the server for a few hours and then it’s gone, and your email address is still private.

this is the best browser out there right now. better than internet explorer by far, even better than safari. it’s open source, too!

tabbed browsing, pop-up blocker, better security, extensions…

i’m glad you brought this topic back up to the top five, laryn. here is a link to the New Revised Standard Version of the Bible online:

http://www.devotions.net/bible/00bible.htm

Bible Gateway doesn’t have the NRSV, so for those who appreciate this translation, it’s a good link to bookmark. the NRSV uses gender inclusive terms to refer to human beings where the original texts make that intention clear. it’s also a clearer, more scholarly translation (I feel) than the one i grew up with (the NIV).
