i received an e-mail asking for action on a particular project. Fr. Sinclair Oubre, who runs the Catholic Labor Network (www.catholiclabor.org) has been working for the past five years on creating a hosptality center in Port Arthur, Texas for the thousands of seafarers who come through the area each year. he has raised $600,000 for the project so far and needs another $300,000 to rebuild an old train depot that will have rooms for the sailors to stay in, a banquet room, and chapel, a library, etc.

the city council can approve the remaining funds and you can help by going to the web site for the local newspaper and voting in a poll: “Should the city council and the EDC give $300,000 to the Seafarers Centre to rebuild the Depot?” the poll is on the left side of the window at www.panews.com. you can read more about the project at http://www.railfan.net/lists/rshsdepot-digest/200302/msg00035.html.
