i added syn-o to the list. i don’t think anyone will miss the hard ‘K’ options.

There seems to be a disunity within the body when it comes to how this acronym C.I.N.O is to be pronounced. I assume “cheeno” is an incorrect pronunciation. How are YOU people pronouncing this thing?

well, most of the time i refer to it as “see-no”. but, when i’m feeling a little cheeky, i also refer to it as “cheeno”.

perhaps we should take a vote?

i actually prefer, “see-no,” for the images of gap khaki commercials summoned by “chee-no.”

I find the GAP khaki commercials appealing and stimulating! But now that GAP is going down the tubes…I say we jump ship along with the rest of the stockholders and go with “see-no”.

I just read in the New York Times that GAP profits are tanking big time. Yes, that’s right. I read the New York Times yesterday. Do you find that impressive, little man?

If we were Italians or ancient Romans who spoke Latin, it’d be “chee-no” for sure. I DO like the Godfather movies, I didn’t really like Gladiator, though.

So, my final vote is: “chee-no”, for the images of Chino Moreno, the lead singer of the Deftones, which it summons.

i agree with jasonvb. “chee-no” seems to roll off the tongue with more fervor and enthusiasm. also, for the sake and appreciation of italian art, perhaps the italian pronuciation is the way to go – i cast my vote.

Along the lines of the Lord of the Rings post, has anybody thought about pronouncing CINO with a hard “C” ala Rivendell?

but doesn’t “cheeno” bring to mind, “cappucino”? in which case, does that label us forever as a bunch of yuppy white folk?

why do i make a connection between cappucino and yuppy white folk? perhaps that is another topic.

chee-no? sounds suspiciously like chee-to to me. kee-no? kind of neeto and the german word for “movie theatre”—ins kino gehen, ja? see-no? (evil, hear no evil, speak no evil).

i think the discussion is too fun to come to a conclusion.
