I am happy to announce that I’ve reserved a ^campingisnotoptional site in West Virginia for the weekend of July 11-13. The site should be a happy medium for those who requested a more primitive (secluded) site and those who don’t like sleeping in tents or don’t have tents. There are two sleeping cabins that hold up to ten people and enough grassy space for tents all around the area. The cabins are situated near a quiet pond and within walking distance to a small stream. As far as I could tell, there’s a swimming lake a short driving distance away. Stay tuned for more details about this East Coast destination as well as info about the West Coast campsite.

Here’s the link to our site in West Virginia:

I’m assuming that the 35 bucks a night is only for staying in the cabins right? How much is camping? Is it offset in park entrance fees?

It appears there is ample space for tents on the site. We have the grounds around the cabins reserved, so camping around the cabins should not cost extra. If we have 20 or more people at the camping site, however (which is likely), some people with tents may have to use the campground located down the path a ways. In that case, then, the entire group would split the cost of all the campsites used among themselves so that everyone pays the same low low price (probably around $5-$7 each for both nights). Then we’d use the cabin site as our main meeting place and people could walk down to their other sites to sleep. It will be helpful for me to know how many people will be attending ahead of time, though, so I’m able to reserve those extra campsites, if necessary. But I have a suspicion there might be spots available that night too, if we have an unexpected overcrowding issue.

so that $35 a night for the cabins . . . is that per person or per cabin?

ha ha. The $35 is for the entire site (which includes two cabins, each accomodating about five people each) for one full night. So that’s $89 ($9 registration fee) for two nights. If we have to add a nearby site, I think they’re $14 per night, which the entire group will split evenly.
