This issue’s feature article on the incarnation didn’t go into all the theological problems with the Orthodox view of images of the divine. Maybe some graphic artists, theologically-minded folk or anyone with thoughts on this matter can express what they think about making pictures or images of God. What is so dangerous about visualizing God who became visible himself as God-incarnate?

Being comfortable with understanding what God looks like may risk becoming comfortable in thinking we know him better than we do. Maybe?
Does God look like Santa Clause?
Does Jesus look like Hussein? Khadafi?
I just don’t feel comfortable picturing Jesus or God in any form, and yet I most likely do it subconsciously. Any dordt people ever think Lopez looked like a Mexican Jesus?
I realize that this is about a 7.5 on a blasphemy scale, but that’s my point.

If an ox could paint a picture, his god would look like an ox.

This is an old Greek saying. It suggests that your picture of God says more about you than it does about God.

So…if Jesus looks Mexican to you, Norb, maybe you’re a Mexico-phile. Do you pray in Spanish?

if i look like jesus, then alot of people must have told jesus that he looked like jerry garcia.

(don’t worry norbert. i think that was probably a full 8 on hoppy’s pantented scale of blasphemy)

Lopez!

Hi!

Sometimes paintings of God are nice. Sometimes not.
That’s just to make my greeting a bit more relevant.

hey norbert.

your typing is sexy.

sometimes the eyes of pictures of Jesus follow you around the room.

in answer to grant’s observations: yes. norbert is a mexi-phile, and i should know…

… but deep down inside, aren’t we all?
