Seerveld has a chapter in Bearing Fresh Olive Leaves, either one or two, that talks more specifically about popular music.

Are you looking for actual music, like recommended cd’s and such?

I would recommend “Eyes Wide Open”, I think. And “Artistic Truth” is a philosophical text by Lambert Zuidervaart.

Film: Check out a site, I think it’s called “Film and Philosophy”. I’ll look it up later. Don’t have time now. Sorry. But I thought it has been connected with Christians somehow maybe. There is a Presbyterian church in Hollywood that teaches screenwriting and supports film-makers. Again, no names, just vague memories.

Grant.

Hi, everyone. As usual, we’re headed to a conference to display for *cino and we’re putting materials together last minute.

One of our recent ideas on which we’re going to follow through is that of creating booklets to give away at conferences that focus on a variety of topics—music, film, travel, education, food, the environment, etc.—exploring how we might be faithful in these areas of life and linking people to resources for doing so, both in catapult and elsewhere.

I’m trying to put together the music booklet for the conference we’re going to this weekend and need resource suggestions in the following categories:

Books

Films

Publications

Organizations & Institutions

Blogs

Other

I’ll put up some of my initial thoughts for some of these categories in a separate post. This booklet will ideally be for everyone from casual listeners to serious musicians who want to be faithful with music.

Have you considered recommending MP3 blogs? I don’t know about the worldview of the hosts, but I visit several of them daily and find so much of the good music I listen to that way.

Surely there are some good articles out there about Common Grace as it applies to music? I’ll look around.

Tell me more about MP3 blogs—I’m unfamiliar…and totally unqualified to be putting this booklet together, but I guess it’s only a start.

And yes, I would be interested in something about the application of common grace to music. Let me know if you find anything. Thanks, jfb!

What kinds of books/films/etc are you in need of recommendations?
When is this conference, K-Dawg?
can you be more specific?

Well, since you’re taking suggestions….

Films

This is going to be the first version of our music-themed booklet (other themes will come later). So we’ll be including resources that deal specifically with music, as well as art in general, that lead one to consider a Kingdom vision for music.

Actually, Steve Turner is going to be at the conference, which is this weekend. Here’s a link:
