Hey everyone,
a few weeks ago I picked up the most recent Weezer album after getting totally hooked on their video for “Keep Fishin’” which featured the Muppets and a very sentimental journey back to the old Muppet show. Anyhow, I am just wondering if anyone else out there has picked up this album (“Maladroit”, the title). What do you think? I love it. Great power pop that is almost metal. The thickest distortion ere i have heard, me thinks. That is all for now. Cheers

Maladroit is OK. It is certainly better than the Green album (shudder). My only deal with it is that I listen to the Blue Album and Pinkerton and see how amazing Weezer can be and then I listen to Maladroit. I would like it more if I didn’t think it could be a WHOLE lot better.

Yep, Pinkerton continues to endure as one of the greats (it continues to disturb me, the more I listen to it). I don’t know why I’ve never gotten into the Green album as much either, though I admire several of the songs (the songwriting is phenomenal). I don’t know Maladroit that well, but I’ve heard it a few times. It’s funny hearing those big eighties guitar sounds. I read somewhere that there was a dispute about the guitar sounds between the guitarist and one of the producers during the making of Maladroit. I can’t recall who won that argument in the end, but many of the sounds are something of a departure from earlier Wheezer stuff.

The argument over the guitar sound was between the bassist and the producer.
The bassist had worked hard on his sound and wanted to record his bass amp with microphones while the producer wanted to record through a synthesized amplifier, skipping the microphone and going directly into the sound board, to get a cleaner sound.

The bassist won out and Weezer’s sound remained nice and filthy.
