I’m gonna go ahead and disagree about Interpol. The show didn’t suck. It was not incredibly exciting but it didn’t suck. I was a little disappointed that they seemed to play all their songs as close to the album versions as possible, but that was made up for by the fact that their bass player looks a lot like Crispin Glover.

Now I’m gonna tell you about a band whose live show you’ve GOT to see!!! …on Friday.

Dave Matthews Band

i was bored. but, then again, i get easily bored with concerts in general. why is that? off to soul search…

p.s. in light of recent tragedies, i won’t say Elliot Smith. whoops.

what? you must be crazy! you thik elliot smith was a bad show? actually i’ve never heard any of his stuff live, but he has to be better than the dave mathews band.

i saw the DMB about 6 years ago at the height of their “jamband” phase and was most dissappointed. i was well on my way to being a fan and that live show just killed it for me. lame stage show and limp jams. they were playing a festival along with lenny kravitz who also a dissappointment despite his cool in-studio sound.

here’s one for the classic rock fans in the audience:

lynyrd skynyrd was a surprisingly static live show despite being the rockinist country rock band this side of the mississippi.

that really cool solo at the end of freebird turns really boring when it is exactly replicated in concert.

Pearl Jam

Along with the Skynyrd thing, Steppenwolf was awful. I mean really, really bad. But I guess that’s to be expected when there aren’t more than one or two surviving members.
Little Feat was also a bit disappointing.

I concur with Steppenwolf. The venue didn’t help – Bratwurst Days in Sheboygan. How the mighty have fallen.

Kiss was disapointing more from a technical standpoint. Thery always promoted the “Wall Of Sound” (speaker cabinets stacked to the ceiling) but in reality they had 3 mesa boogie amps underneath the stage. The cabinets were just formed plastic with a few loud speakers interspersed. As far as sound, you couldn’t get much simpler than Kiss so it was pretty much an easy slam dunk. A monkey could put on make up and play their tunes.
