A Mighty Wind

Christopher Guest’s(sp?) new movie comes out tomorrow. Waiting for Guffman is one of my all-time favorite movies, and I loved Spinal Tap and Best of Show.

This new one is about a bunch of Folk Musicians putting on a tribute concert for a musician that inspired all of them. Should be hillarious.

The clincher though is that the closest place its showing is Chicago. I’m curious if the gang from Chicago that we missed last Saturday might want to meet us up there this weekend or next to see this movie.

I’m actually a part of that “Chicago group” (but was out of town and missed the euphoria last weekend) – and we’ll all be gone this weekend doing the Easter thing in various parts of the country. I’ll talk to my people and you talk to your people and maybe we could hook up next Saturday? I am slightly stoked for the movie to come out.

Anyone else in the Chicagoland area feel like joining in…feel free to email me or grant or kristinmarie (I think our emails are all listed on our *cino profiles). I’m sure the people in California and other far away lands don’t care if we go or where we meet and all that garbage. :)

I must admit that I loved working on this film. Though not as immediately funny as Guffman or Tap, there are so many hidden inuendos that will take several viewings to catch. I loved it! (Stick around for the entire scroll at the end of the film…their Bible song is hysterical!)

Speaking of Waiting for Guffman, I finally saw it this weekend. In Missouri of all places! Seeing it with people who actually live there and can attest to some of the truth in it was a bonus (one guy I was with is from France and literally giggled the whole way through). And then we sang great songs like “A Penny for Your Thoughts” (complete with key motions) and “Nothing Ever Happens on Mars” for the remainder of the weekend. Rad.

I saw Mighty Wind last week and had mixed feelings. While I loved Spinal Tap and enjoyed Waiting f G, I thought that the creative was missing in MW.

Would be interested to hear what other people thought.

I definitely didn’t think it was as funny as Guff or Tap. It was a bit more predictable and formulatic than prior endeavors. I wonder if the film was slammed out and even edited down. It seems that all the studios are really pushing for the PG13 rating (especially Warner Bros.) and perhaps some of the flavor was lost in the editing. Perhaps my expectations were too high…

For those of you in the Chicago area, looks like the Winona Lake gang is driving up to Chicago to check it out if any of you are interested in seeing it with us. We’ll probably see the show closest to 9:00pm since we need time to get up there.

It’s actually playing down the street from us (Grant, Kristin and I) at the same time at the Landmark Century Theatre…in case you would be interested in coming back to our neighborhood (with some help in parking, probably, too!).

I guess we’ll just wait to hear from you and see what happens!
