Vol 13, Num 14 :: 2014.07.11 — 2014.07.24
The church is filled with secrets
as its worshipers arrive,
pasting smiling plastic faces
over tears just barely dried.
The church is filled with secrets
in the questions we don’t raise,
in silent doubt and conflict,
in confusions we won’t name.
The church is filled with secrets
in the pain we keep concealed,
drowning in our shame-filled darkness,
as we hide our need to be healed.
The church is filled with secrets
that can’t be touched by hope and grace,
‘til we bring our messy honesty
without the pretense of a perfect face.
